2. STAFF PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS
Yes, yes, it's tough being a CKDU programmer, because you're always having to fill out some form or another. But please remember, your input is vital to making CKDU a great community organization. The CKDU Board of Directors are doing staff evaluations and they need your input on your experiences with staff at the station. Forms are in the MCR, as is the box you put them in when your done. DEADLINE: March 24th. Evaluations for this round: Erica, David, and Reed.

3. MCR BOARD PROBLEM
One of the channels on the board is in need of repair and parts are on order. This means that Mic 2 is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for the inconvenience!

4. STREAMING & ARCHIVES UPDATE
Some points that you should know. This is techie stuff, put please give it a read. Knowledge is power!
**Our online stream is now set up to come straight from the board. This means that if our broadcast is down for some reason (ie. power outage at CBC) then we are still live on the internet. Thanks, George!
**The archives, however, are based around our logging system, which gets audio from an actual radio receiver. We are required by the CRTC to log what we actually broadcast, so logger (and therefore archives) need to be getting audio from 88.1FM. If the broadcast goes down (due to a power outage, hurricane, the apocalypse, or what have you), so does logger, and so does archives.
**Our online stream is moving towards using Icecast, which is a more stable method of streaming. Icecast produces ogg files instead of mp3 files. Ogg is the open-source version of mp3, and it has a better sound quality. But streaming Ogg means that some internet listeners, especially those on iTunes, will need to install a codec to be able to play ogg files. You can try finding that codec here: http://www.vorbis.com/
We will post this on the website soon to help inform listeners. But if you have a mailing list, you can also let your listeners know about this.
For now, people can still listen in mp3 using the lo-fi stream. Eventually that will be moved to ogg as well, but not for a few weeks.

5. CKDU IN THE NEWS!
"Internet age makes community broadcaster more important than ever"
Yup, that's right, internet. You thought you killed radio, but we were just faking it!

6. HELP PLAN FUNDING DRIVE 2010
Monday, March 29th, 6pm
A good, old-fashioned get together to discuss plans for Funding Drive 2010. If you're interested in joining, email Erica, and she will send you the compiled feedback from FD 2009.
Agenda:
Discuss feedback/thoughts on FD2009
Discuss potential changes for FD2010
Make action/task list for planning FD2010
Other fundraising potential? Grants, etc?
Discuss potential meeting times for future meetings

7. SHOW START TIMES AND END TIMES
This is a friendly and gentle reminder to please do your best to end your show on time. Often times when one show starts late it creates a domino effect and many shows' start times are pushed back. It is really important to do your best to wrap things up on time -- listeners like it and programmers do too! The clock on the MCR board has been calibrated and is ready for your impeccable timing.

8. GOING TO NCRC 2010 GABRIOLA
CKDU has some money ($3000) set aside to help get staff and programmers to the National Community Radio Conference, June 7-11, 2010, on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. If you are interested in applying for funding from CKDU, please submit an application to the board (board@ckdu.ca) BEFORE 6pm FRIDAY MARCH 26th!
Your application should include:
A) Name, contact info, CKDU involvement
B) Why you are interested in going to NCRC 2010? What do you hope to get out of the conference?
C) How can attending the conference benefit the rest of CKDU? What will you 'bring back'?
D) What portion of costs would you like CKDU to cover?
Please read all info pertaining to NCRC before you make your application! The info is here:
http://www.ckgi.ca/ncrc-2010/

9. PRESENTING AT NCRC 2010 GABRIOLA
CKGI is currently accepting proposals for presenting at workshops, facilitating caucuses, hosting seminars, attending panel presentations OR anything you feel will be of interest to the attending delegates.
To be considered:
1. Proposals must be submitted by March 31st, 2010 noon.
2. The proposal must contain a one paragraph course description, mention any materials you will provide.
3. A one paragraph info piece on yourself, answering the question why you should be the host or facilitator for the workshop or seminar. Your information will be printed in the conference guide.
Email NCRC proposals to Ken Zakreski. Please include NCRC in the subject line of your messages. WIR proposals should be forwarded to Kathy Ramsey, NCRC co-host. Please include WIR in the subject line of your messages.

10. C@P DIGITAL DIVIDE SURVEY
You may or may not know that CKDU is a public internet access C@P site. Currently, C@P is surveying the public about the digital divide, and they would like your input. Anyone can complete a survey, and there's a chance to win a $50 gift card.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DigitalDivide

11. CKDU 25th ANNIVERSARY POSTERS FOR YOU!
Programmer Chris Foster has designed and printed delightful 25th Anniversary posters for all CKDU members. Drop in during office hours anytime to pick yours up. We'll have one waiting for you, while quantities last!

12. DO YOU PLAY NEW RELEASES? HELP THEM CHART!
Dear Programmers,
I've noticed that since the introduction of the paperless logger, the amount of new releases being played has dwindled from some 150 new release being played each week, down to fewer then 50 per week…
So i just wanted to remind everyone that in order to help your favourite bands make it on to our Top 10 Coast Chart and our Top 30 Earshot Chart, you MUST make sure you add the new release numbers into the paperless logger.
--Reed, Music Director

13. LET YOUR SHOW ROCK THE MIDNIGHT HOURS
Are you interested in having your show rebroadcast during the late night hours? We have some space on our overnighter programming for your show! All that is required from you is that you:
1. Download your show (from http://ckdu.dal.ca/)
2. Clean up the beginning and ending
3. Upload it to the CKDU overnighter archives (don't worry, we'll show you how)
If you are interested contact Tarek (tarek@ckdu.ca). Why wouldn't you?

14. OUT LIKE A LION FESTIVAL
CKDU is participating in the Out Like a Lion Festival, March 25-30, 2010. We're looking for programmers interested in recording live shows, hosting phone and in-studio interviews, and even teching live in-studio sessions with performers such as Torngat, Zokugaku, Paper Beat Scissors, Sageev Oore, and others. Are you interested? Please contact Erica or Tarek if you are.
The full schedule is here: http://jazzeast.com/view-events#out-like-lion

15. OBEY CONVENTION
Another awesome Halifax music festival, happening May 27-30, 2010. Let's get involved! Interviews, live recordings, in-studio sessions... let's make it happen. If interested, email Erica or Tarek. 16. EX-CKDU SHENANIGANS REPORT
Remember Rich Terfry? The Bassment? DJ Critical? Or you may know him as Buck 65. He's put an open call out for stories which he will make into songs, and we here at the newsletter think a few of them might as well come from our ranks...
