2. NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS, 2010-11
At the AGM on September 8th we elected a new board to run CKDU for the next year. It was great to see so many members stepping up to take responsibility for running their station. Congratulations to everyone elected. Along with two DSU student executives and one KSU student executives, here's your new board for 2010-11:

3. FUNDING DRIVE EVENTS TONIGHT & THIS WEEKEND
TONIGHT: Presented by Sonic Society, the Fringe hit Black Jack Justice has an encore presentation at the Company House at 8pm. Be there or be square!
FRIDAY NIGHT: An all-ages show at the Sackville Heights Community Centre presented by Chin Music, 7 bands, 7pm, 7 dollars.
SATURDAY NIGHT: An all-CKDU dance extravaganza! DJ Mindtrip, DJ Anderoc, and DJ Dave Mackenzie rule the mixer and get you on the dance floor at Victor's on Spring Garden. 10pm onwards!

4. FUNDING DRIVE EMAILS-A-COMIN'
We've sent our a funding drive email to all of last year's donors requesting their continued support. This applies to all donors for whom we have a current valid email address. Shortly after you get this newsletter we'll also send YOU the funding drive donation request by email. Please CUSTOMIZE the email and send it to your friends, family and listeners. Let people know about your show and what it means to you. Let them know how important community radio is from your perspective. Together, we'll raise enough to keep CKDU going for yet another year!

5. MANDATORY FUNDING DRIVE TRAINING
Cat Chapman has done all kinds of research and put together a great presentation to help YOU raise money for YOUR radio station this funding drive. If you weren't at the AGM, then you need to attend the Funding Drive training. Cat will offer the training presentation on Tuesday, Sep 21 at 12 noon and at 6pm. Please contact catherine@ckdu.ca for more info.

6. RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP
New cards are in. Please bring your annual $15 membership fee by the station. You can give this to any staff member and they will get you your new card.
Please note: Dal & King's student do not pay this fee, but you'll still need to pick up your card!

7. NEW WORKSHOP: TELLING A STORY
Conrad Fox is the facilitator for New Roots Radio, a CKDU youth internship project focussing on producing a show about immigration issues in Halifax. Conrad is offering a radio production workshop on Saturday, September 25th, from 9:00 to 4:00. The theme is "telling a story." It will cover how to define and select a story, the use of characters, the coarse art of interviewing, writing a script and a brief intro to mixing. CKDU members are welcome to join! 8. NCRC 2011 STEERING COMMITTEE
CKDU is hosting the national conference of the campus and community radio association in June 2011. Would you like to help plan NCRC 2011? There's workshops, speakers, billeting, promotions, budgets to plan. If you're interesting in contributing, please email erica@ckdu.ca We will schedule our first meeting for mid-October, right after funding drive. Stay tuned to this newsletter for updates.

9. IT'S AN HONOUR JUST TO BE NOMINATED...
...but it would be pretty sweet to win, too! CKDU has scored two award nominations for Nova Scotia Music Week awards this year: Best Radio Station, and Best Radio Show: Halifax Is Burning. Congrats to Trevor Murphy of Halifax Is Burning. His hard work really shows in his excellent weekly local music show!
If you are a member of Music Nova Scotia, please vote for CKDU and Halifax Is Burning!

10. STUDENT UNION BUILDING FALL HOURS
Along with the students comes reasonable building hours! As of September 7th, the building hours will be:
Mon-Wed 7:30am-11pm
Thu-Fri 7:30am-midnight
Saturday 9am-midnight
Sunday 11:30am-9pm
Holidays: closed

11. SOCAN COMETH...OCTOBER 27, 28, 29 & 30
All programmers with a show airing on October 27 - 30 will have to fill out the paper SOCAN logs! Please be sure to fill out all the info! Be extra-sure to fill out the time of day, composer/author, usage and duration! A sample log will be in MCR!
SOCAN (the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) logs are part of a statistical sampling of music used throughout the country and are used to make an equitable division of SOCAN revenues to writers and publishers of music in Canada and throughout the world. Therefore, it is extremely important for clarity and accuracy in the logs.
For the SOCAN period, be extra sure to reach your Canadian content requirements and play your favorite local/Canadian band! They'll get paid!
